The secret is in the glass. To get those specific UV wavelengths, we use high-pressure mercury vapor. It gets incredibly hot. If the quartz envelope isn’t pure, the glass clouds over or just snaps under the stress. That’s why we use high-grade fused quartz. It keeps the tube clear so the UV light actually hits the ink instead of getting trapped in the glass. Let’s talk about lamp life. People talk about “long-life” tubes like it’s some kind of magic trick. It’s not. It’s just basic chemistry—getting the gas pressure and the electrode coatings exactly right so the tube doesn’t burn out too early. But here’s the thing: you can have the best tube in the world, and it’ll still die early if your cooling fans are clogged with dust. When airflow drops, the temperature spikes. Simple as that. Keep your fans clean, or you’re basically cutting your lamp’s life in half. Fitting them into your shop. Most small plants aren’t using a “standard” setup. Everything is a bit customized.
